Save Big with Do-It-Yourself Oil ChangesWe’re all looking for a way to save some money these days, especially with the price of gas. Did you know that when you take your car into a shop to have the oil change, you mostly pay for the convenience of someone else changing your oil. It is surprisingly inexpensive to change your own oil. After the initial too costs, such as an oil pan and the basic tools like pliers, all you pay for is the oil and oil filter.

Be sure to follow manufacturer’s guidelines when changing your oil. You’ll find the recommended motor oil type in your owner’s manual. The old standby of an oil change every 3,000 miles doesn’t necessarily apply to every vehicle. Late model vehicles often go much further between oil changes, sometimes up to 7,000 miles or more.

Changing your oil isn’t difficult. In fact, you can complete an oil change in 4 easy steps:

Step 1.) Remove the drain plug and drain the oil from the engine.
Step 2.) Clean the drain plug and replace it.
Step 3.) Remove the old oil filter and install a new one.
Step 4.) Pour in fresh oil.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully changed your oil and you’re saving money too. If you find that changing your own oil seems like too daunting of a task, bring your car in for an oil change at Tregembo Motors Service Department. We always have competitive prices on routine maintenance tasks.
